Cummins Reports Extending Diesel Engine Supply Deal For Dodge Ram Pickup Trucks: Terms are sketchy but the deal apparently means DaimlerChrysler won't be using engines from its Detroit Diesel Corp. (DDC) or Mercedes diesel subsidiaries for Dodge Ram trucks. Cummins says the new deal "paves the way for collaboration on diesel engine technology beyond the length of the contract." Cummins earlier reported that it has achieved U.S. EPA Tier 2/Bin 5 emissions levels on prototype engines for Dodge pickup/SUV models (see Diesel Fuel News 9/2/03, p12). In contrast, DDC reported hitting even cleaner Tier 2/Bin 3 emissions levels on a prototype. But the DDC scheme uses urea-selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology; no urea infrastructure exists.
